SOUTHERN ILLINOIS (KFVS)- One of the most popular sports in America, football, is the topic of lawmakers in Illinois.
It's called House Bill 1205. Under this potentially new legislation introduced this week by Representative Carol Sente, if passed, school districts across Illinois would have to adopt a policy that would cut the amount of contact during practices to once a week.
The sport has gone under fire recently when it comes to the impact repeated concussions have on players.
The NFL has placed limits on contact during practices and the IVY League has limited hitting among its college football players to a maximum of two times per week.
Representative Carol Sente says while the bill would make it safer for participants, she wants to preserve the game of football.
