WEST FRANKFORT, IL (KFVS)- How would you react in a time of crisis? Franklin County Emergency Responders have teamed up to teach everyday people what to do when disaster strikes.
Starting this week, Franklin County's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will teach members of the community basic disaster response skills.
Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help.
"CERT training is an excellent opportunity for families and co-workers to become better educated about emergencies and how to react to them while doing something productive together," said Ryan Buckingham, director of Franklin County EMA.
The class will kick off Wednesday October 3 at 6 p.m. at the West Frankfort Fire Department.
There will be a total of eight three-hour training sessions running through November 21.
The CERT training is open to everyone regardless of age and ability.
