Benton woman wins $2,000 shopping spree for energy challenge

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - Ameren Illinois announced Monday that a Benton, Ill. woman is the grand prize winner of the Take a Pledge challenge.

Debbie Kolk of Benton chose to spend her $2,000 winnings Monday morning during a shopping spree at a local Best Buy in Carbondale. Ameren said winnings must be spent on Energy Star qualified appliances. The goal is to continue helping Kolk with her personal commitment to save energy.

The first place winner, Lisa Blakely of O'Fallon, Ill. and second prize winner, Carolyn Mathewson of Effingham, are receiving $300 and $100 home improvement store gift certificates, respectively.

According to Ameren, the new challenge has begun. Customers have until April 21, 2013 to register for the Take a Pledge challenge. To make a pledge, customers must go to www.ActOnEnergy.com to submit a pledge form. Taking the pledge is as easy as replacing just one light in your home with an Energy Star qualified bulb.
