Earthquake exercise to test state, local preparedness

Earthquake exercise to test state, local preparedness

FRANKLIN COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - The Illinois Emergency Management Agency says more than 100 state and local agencies and emergency response organizations will participate in a three-day exercise to test plans for dealing with a catastrophic earthquake in Southern Illinois.

The IEMA will be coordinating the exercise, which begins Tuesday morning and finishes Thursday afternoon.

“While we have considerable experience responding to the disasters we frequently face, such as tornadoes, floods and blizzards, a major earthquake would definitely present unique challenges,” said IEMA Director Jonathon Monken.  “This exercise will give us an opportunity to test our earthquake plans and identify any issues we need to address to enhance our preparedness.”

Free forum on co-insurance

Free forum on co-insurance

HERRIN, IL (KFVS) – State Representative John Bradley and the Arthritis Foundation will host a community forum to discuss the rising co-insurance costs for some specialty medications.

There are several “tiers” for prescription drugs. They’re often labled “generic,” “preferred,” and “non-preferred.” The prescription drug usually has a predetermined cost associated with the tier it falls under. Now, several health plans have instituted a fourth tier or the “specialty tier.”

According to a release from John Bradley, many health plans require the patient to pay a percentage of the cost of the most expensive medications that fall under the “specialty tier.”

A forum called “Navigating the Health System & Managing Your Co-Insurance” will focus on navigating the health system to maintain access to medications that patients need.
