Summer blood drives scheduled, one in Sesser | Events

FRANKLIN COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - The American Red Cross has scheduled their summer blood drives for Southern Missouri and Southern Illinois.

The Red Cross invites anyone with a little more than an hour to take out of their time to visit one of their blood donor centers or blood drive. According to the Red Cross, the need for blood is constant because the shelf life is up to 35 days for blood and five days for platelets.

With the annual hurricane season not far away, the Red Cross says it is important to have blood on the shelves in preparation.

All presenting blood and platelet donors will be automatically entered in a drawing for a Music City getaway. The getaway includes an all expense paid trip for two to Nashville, Tenn., two VIP passes to the Grand Ole Opry, a backstage tour of the Opry and a $300 Visa gift card.

The Southern Missouri blood drives include:

• June 6 - Perry County Memorial Hospital, 434 North West Street, Perryville, Mo. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• June 6 - Walgreens, 229 North Main Street, Sikeston, Mo. from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
• June 6 - Lynwood Baptist Church, 2935 Lynwood Hills Drive, Cape Girardeau, Mo. from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
• June 8 - First United Methodist Church, 5th and North Main, Poplar Bluff, Mo. from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
• June 8 - Zion United Methodist Church, 3652 State Hwy. Z, Cape Girardeau, Mo. from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
• June 9 - Southeast Missouri Hospital, 1701 Lacey Street, Cape Girardeau, Mo. from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• June 9 - Premier Rehab, 1405 North Mount Auburn Road, Cape Girardeau, Mo. from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
• June 10 - Mingo Job Corps Center, 4253 State Hwy. T, Puxico, Mo. from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• June 10 - Walgreens, 1 South Kingshighway, Cape Girardeau, Mo. from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
• June 11 - Family Video, 1330 Broadway, Cape Girardeau, Mo. from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
• June 13 - Masonic Lodge 417, Whitewater Street, Whitewater, Mo. from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
• June 13 - Elks Lodge, 120 East Yoakum, Chaffee, Mo. from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Southern Illinois blood drives include:

• June 7 - Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, 405 West Jackson, Carbondale, Ill. from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• June 9 - Southern Illinois University Carbondale, 1255 Lincoln Dr., Carbondale, Ill. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• June 13 - Valentes Terrace, 103 West Franklin, Sesser Ill. from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
