Recycle old refrigerators, freezers through Ameren for a chance to win shopping spree | Events
(KFVS) - Ameren Illinois will be collecting old, energy guzzling refrigerators and freezers from residents.
Those getting rid of their appliances will be eligible to receive $50, save $150 or more a year and have a chance to win a $2,000 shopping spree.
To be eligible for the $2,000 shopping spree, eligible refrigerators and freezers must be picked up by ActOnEnergy no later than March 31. The $2,000 prize will allow the winner to purchase one or more Energy Star certified appliances of the winner’s choice.
When residential customers schedule a free pickup of an eligible refrigerator or freezer, ActOnEnergy will make certain that old unit is given new life.
“We rehabilitate these Energy Hog refrigerators and freezers at our recycling facility in Springfield. Their recycled components – primarily metal, plastic, glass – will get the opportunity to lead productive lives as new products,” said Karen Warnke, Ameren Illinois Customer Service energy efficiency advisor.
Since launching the recycling program in 2008, 46,600 refrigerators and freezers have been recycled. The amount of electricity used by those 46,600 refrigerators and freezers is equal to the power used annually by about 4,600 typical residential customers.
Ameren Illinois residential customers may schedule free pickups of eligible refrigerators and freezers by visiting this website: ActOnEnergy.com/recycle. Customers may also call 1-866-899-9088.
The website also features detailed information on recycling food waste, appliances and everyday items from bottle caps to glass bottles.
Another section features an array of new, energy-efficient appliances designed in vintage, mid-century modern styling.
ActOnEnergy offers a variety of incentives and rebates to residential customers.
