Rend Lake Fishing Report for week of Aug. 12 | Environment

BENTON, IL (KFVS) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has released the Rend Lake Fishing  Report for the week of August 12.

The report for the main lakes and tributaries includes:

Largemouth Bass

• Rating - Good
• Bait of Choice - Worms, rattle traps, jig&trailer, spinner baits, square bill crank baits
• Suggested Locations - Fish around bridges and along the rocks. Fish at mouths of bays and in 6-10 feet cover spots
• Regulations - 14" minimum length limit, 6 daily creel limit. One fish daily creel limit in ponds 14" minimum lenght

Crappie

• Rating - Excellent
• Bait of Choice - Jigs and minnows
• Suggested Locations - Brush piles, under bridges and along Highway 154 are hot spots. 6-12 feet of water. Bank fish from sailboat harbor wall
• Regulations - 25 fish daily creel limit with no more than 10 fish, 10 inches or longer

Bluegill

• Rating - Good
• Bait of Choice - Crickets, red wiggers and meal worms
• Suggested Locations - Fish along rocks, Fish in the back of necks, in a little bit deeper water
• Regulations - 10 fish daily creel limit in ponds

Channel Catfish

• Rating - Excellent
• Bait of Choice - Worms, cut shad, shad guts, leaches, shrimp and stink bait. Large minnows
• Suggested Locations - Fish along rap and drop offs. Drift fish anywhere on the lake using shrimp
• Regulations - 6 fish daily creel limit in ponds. Jugs must be attended at all times while fishing.

White Bass

• Rating - Good
• Bait of Choice - Spoon lures, jig and curly tail grubs. Vibrax spinner number 3 and crankbait
• Suggested Locations - Fish in shallow bays near brush cover and bushes. Fish around bridges and along the rocks. Fish at mouths of bays and in 6-10 feet cover spots. Reports of fish being caught by stumps
• Regulations - 20 fish creel limit. No more than 3 fish 17" or longer daily

According to the Corps, as of Sunday, Aug. 12, the lake level was 404.68, the average pool for that date is 405.33 and the water temp was 82 degrees Farenheit.
