WEST FRANKFORT, IL (KFVS) - West Frankfort police arrested a man accused of wielding an axe and running over two women with his vehicle.
James M. Lenzie Jr., 25, of West Frankfort is charged with two counts of reckless conduct, one count of aggravated battery, and two counts of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.
Police were dispatched to the 200 block of East Lindell Street on October 2 in reference to a hit and run traffic crash at 7:17 p.m.
Police found Anita K. Austin, 53, and Anita J. Ausec, 37. The women were taken to Herrin Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The victims were waiting for Lenzie to bring personal property to the home that belonged to Lenzie's estranged roommate.
West Frankfort police say Lenzie refused to give personal property to the roommate.
Officers on scene were told that Lenzie got an axe and threatened to kill the roommate. Then, police say Lenzie struck the roommate in the face. Lenzie is also accused of striking A. Austin and A. Ausec with his vehicle. After this, he is accused of putting his vehicle in reverse and stricking A. Austin a second time before leaving the scene.
Officers found Lenzie at his father’s home in the 900 block of East Poplar Street.
