Parade of Quilts Celebration April 24-27

WHITTINGTON, IL (KFVS) - The Parade of Quilts Celebration will be April 24 through 27 at the Southern Illinois Art and Artisans Center.

Each year the Artisans Center offers a display of unique art quilts created by members of the Illinois Artisans Program. These exceptional quilts encompass both traditional and modern designs and offer a lively look into the art of contemporary quilt making.

The center is located at 14967 Gun Creek Trail in Whittington, Ill.

Mother & Daughter Tea to benefit the Women’s Center

CARTERVILLE, IL (KFVS) - Ladies of all ages are invited to the Carterville Community Center for a Mother & Daughter Tea to benefit The Women’s Center.

Organizers say the event will be held on on Sunday,  April 28,  from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The Women’s Center serves seven counties in southern Illinois ~ Franklin, Jackson, Johnson, Perry, Saline, Union and Williamson. 

New this year is  a silent auction, story time for the youngest ladies, and the Mother’s Day Marketplace.

Cristaudo’s will be catering the event. Entertainment for the tea will be 14-year-old singer/songwriter Hannah Herron, and Southern Illinois Dance Company.

Illinois State Fair announces Grandstand entertainment for 2013

(KFVS) – The Grandstand entertainment line-up has been announced for the 2013 Illinois State Fair. 

State Fair Manager Amy Bliefnick today announced additional concert bookings for the August festival, including performances by The Band Perry, Billy Currington, Gary Allan, Thompson Square, Styx and REO Speedwagon.     

“The progress that has been made is exciting,” Bliefnick said. “Coupled with the previously announced booking of country superstar Toby Keith and the return of the Million Dollar Quartet, we are well on the way to delivering the kind of top-notch entertainment that fairgoers have come to expect.”

Register now for the 48th Annual State Fiddler Contest on Oct. 21

(KFVS) - The 48th Annual State Fiddler Contest will be Sunday, October 21 at the Thelma Keller Convention Center in Effingham, Ill.

Presented by the Illinois Old-Time Fiddlers Association, the contest will start at 1 p.m. General admission is $5 and children 8 years old and younger are free.

The purpose of the Association is to preserve the old time fiddle music and to pass it on to future generations. They say they welcome and encourage fiddlers of all ages to enter. They are hoping for contestants of all ages and from all areas in Illinois.
