ISP reminds drivers to use caution as school starts

ISP reminds drivers to use caution as school starts

FRANKLIN COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - The Illinois State Police would like to remind drivers that classes will be starting soon and that means an increase of vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian traffic near schools.

According to ISP, drivers should focus on driving and limit distractions while driving, especially near a school. They should be on a lookout for school buses and be prepared to stop at the appropriate time and place when school buses are loading or unloading children.

They say it is also against the law to talk on a cell phone while driving through a school zone.

Police say troops will be conducting enforcement activities throughout the school year in and around schools to take care of unsafe driving.

Mulkeytown Water Dist. receives $330,000 loan

FRANKLIN COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello announced Friday the Mulkeytown Water District has received a $330,000 water and waste disposal loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Office of Rural Development.

The loan will be used to relocate about three miles of the water district's existing main along Illinois Highway 14. Cosetllo said this will allow the Illinois Department of Transportation to proceed with its plans to widen the highway.

"A reliable water system greatly improves the quality of life," said Costello, "and I will continue to support efforts to provide our cities and towns the resources to serve the needs of their residents and businesses."

Costello said the USDA funds help communities meet their pressing water infrastructure needs.
